But making it fully metadata-driven and scalable so it can onboard on average 1 new portfolio company per month, makes it a challenge!

Derek possesses a unique combination of strong technical experience and a friendly yet direct personality, through which he added great value to our project at Everfield.
We acquire software companies at high speed, so scalability of the data platform is extremely important. With his pragmatic approach and intrinsic motivation to perform above expectations, he laid a strong foundation for our Data platform, which enabled us to exceed our internal and external reporting requirements.
As a team member, Derek goes further than just doing his job. He's been involved in planning sessions and has proactively shared his thoughts in case he saw room for improvement. Even though he was with us on a part-time basis, it never felt like he wasn't invested in the assignment. On his off-days we could still reach him for emergencies, which has been much appreciated.

Migrating the onprem DWH to a modern dataplatform in Azure (datalake+database), while at the same time adjusting the current solutions to a source change from Navision to SAP.
A second project at stichd concerned building an omnichannel deltalake for B2C data. As stichd is combining online and brick and mortar stores, visitors, sales, etc. it becomes crucial to integrate these two completely different datasets into one view. Examples of this omnichannel use case are the Manchester City Football store that combines with the online website, as well as in-stadium sales. And Formula1 sales at the trackside, combined with online sales.

In this fast-paced environment, our role was to bring the Azure DWH solution to a more robust, high performing production environment, based on CRM and Navision. With near-realtime data streams, incremental loads, and accurate reporting for traders, finance and operations, there is ample opportunity to geek out on best practices and innovative solutions in the Azure stack.
I had the pleasure of working together with Derek for a little less than a year during my tenure as Director of IT at ACT Commodities.
After having difficulty recruiting high-quality talent for several months, I came across Derek who ended up being instrumental in creating a solid backbone to our Business Intelligence. I was particularly impressed with Derek’s ability to swiftly deliver results. Within days, he was completing challenging tasks and had managed to acquire enough knowledge of the business to become effective at his job.
Moreover, he is always very pleasant and fun to be around. His sense of humor and desire to share knowledge as well as help the team grow were key to creating the right chemistry with his colleagues and establishing a good atmosphere in the IT team. With close to 100 supermarkets in the Netherlands, Deen Supermarkten needs to implement smart systems that operate in areas such as retail, replenishment and distribution, inventory management, category management, promotions, financial reporting. Deen is transitioning to new source systems in most of these areas, but also integrating data be-tween these systems. The DWH not only functions as a reporting and analysis tool, but also as a source system for these applications. Besides these challenges, the DWH is also moving to the cloud, moving to Power BI, and servicing the supermarket managers with near-real-time performance metrics on revenue, waste and personnel planning . In a cul-ture that promotes Fail Fast and Move Forward, rapid development and prototyping is an everyday achievement.
Derek is the senior BI developer in the Data Warehouse, facilitates the data integration, creates dashboards and report-ing and promotes best practices.

Technical Trainer – DAX

Heineken implements Power BI on a global scale with Premium capacity. Several groups of power users in Power BI are required to move to an advanced level in creating reports and dashboards using Power BI and the DAX language. With an interactive workshop custom tailored to the Heineken workspace and challenges, Derek has trained these users in advanced concepts in Power BI and the DAX language.

Zadkine promotes selfservice and KPI management through the Microsoft stack. Zadkine moved from SSRS to Power BI. Derek worked on the frontend and backend development, gathering business logic and implementing technical solutions. Zadkine also moves from on-premises to cloud. Derek provided the technical roadmap for this transition and trained the developers in the required techniques in SQL, Tabular models, Power BI and DAX.
